Four Jackrabbits in Acton on the Links
BROOKINGS, S.D.—Four members of the South Dakota State men’s golf team have been busy on the links in July playing in a pair of South Dakota Golf Association events.
Sophomore Grant Smith (Des Moines, Iowa) reached the semifinals of the SDGA Men’s Match Play Championship July 10-14. He lost to Scott Nowak 1 up. Smith defeated Charlie Jacobson, 3 and 2 in the quarterfinals and Nick Heig 1 up in the second round and Riley Duncanson 20 holes in the opening round.
Sophomore Ian Rinken (Sioux Falls) lost in the second round of play, falling to Tyler Rachetto, 3 and 2, after defeating Jesse Talcott, 2 and 1.
At the 2014 U.S. Amateur Qualifier, Tobin placed 14th, shooting a two-round 156 (79-77) at the Bakker Crossing Golf Course in Sioux Falls.
Smith placed 19th, firing a 159 (78-81) and junior Austin Sitter (Sioux Falls) shot a 164 (78-86) to tie for 25th.
The Jackrabbits open the fall portion of their 2014 schedule Sept. 1-2 at the Whistling Straits Intercollegiate in Sheboygan, Wis.
