Jackrabbits Claim Second Place at Bison Open
FARGO, N.D.— The South Dakota State men’s cross country team placed second out of four teams at the Bison Open Friday night to open the 2014 season.
The meet was scored based on all possible dual matchups. The Jackrabbits topped Fort Wayne, 15-50, North Dakota State, 25-30 and North Dakota, 21-36. South Dakota State fell to South Dakota, 23-33.
On the men’s side, Brendan Sage was South Dakota State’s top finisher, placing second overall in the 6K course in 19:08.79.
Trevor Capra and Connor Branick also cracked the top 10, finishing sixth (19:26.78) and ninth (19:40.53) respectively. Daniel Pettit was the only other Jackrabbit to make the top 20, completing the course in 19:56.52 to claim 16th place.
Andrew Thies finished one spot outside of the top 20, placing 21st with a time of 20:08.59. Duane Jongeling (20:14.93), Dylan Slaba (20:17.09) and Grant VanKeulen (20:34.89) placed 24th, 26th and 28th respectively.
The Jackrabbits return to action Friday, Sept. 5 when they travel to Falcon Heights, Minn. to compete at the Oz Memorial.
