PRINCESS ANNE, Md.—Led by two Jackrabbits with 10-plus kills, the South Dakota State volleyball team (2-1) defeated UMES (1-2), 3-0 (29-27, 25-12, 25-22) Saturday at the Hawk’s Holiday Hullabaloo in the Hytche Athletic Center in Princess Anne, Md.

Freshman Ashley Beaner (Sioux Falls) registered a match-high 12 kills and hit .435 for the match. Sophomore Tiara Gibson (Clear Lake) added 11 kills and a pair of solo blocks.

For the match, the Jackrabbits hit a season-best .363, had five with five-or-more kills and 12 of 13 had a positive hitting percentage.

“Easily our best offensive performance of the weekend,” head coach Phil McDaniel said. “We spread the ball around well and kept all of our attackers involved in our offense. Now we will see how we bounce back after a short break.”

Junior Lizzie Palmer (Sioux Falls) had a team-best 11 digs while senior Margit Hansing (Urbandale, Iowa) had 10 digs and six kills.

Setters Brooke Leetham (Westminster, Colo.) and freshman Jessi Henter (Clive, Iowa) had 19 and 14 assists, respectively. Leetham also added four kills and nine digs.

The Jacks return to action at 3 p.m. when they play Fairleigh Dickinson.
