Jackrabbit golfer qualifies for USAPL
BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. - South Dakota State junior golfer David Smith carded a two round total of 147 on Tuesday at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Qualifying to earn one of four spots to compete at the USAPL on June 27-July 2, at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Brandon, Ore.
"David qualified for the US Amateur and US Public Links in the summer of 2009, so this makes three USGA Championships, which is an impressive accomplishment in itself," SDSU Head Golf Coach Jared Baszler said. "Most people consider themselves fortunate to play in just one. I wish David the best of luck at Bandon Dunes and will be cheering for him to make the 64-man match play field."
A Plymouth, Minn., native, Smith shot an opening round 73 and followed that up with a 74 at the par 72 Edinburgh USA in Brooklyn Park, Minn. Smith finished third with his two-round total of 147, tied with Johnny Larson. Fellow Plymouth native Kyle Beversdorf earned medalist honors with a two-round total of 141. Ryan Peterson finished second with a 146.
