The South Dakota State women's soccer team lost to Minnesota 4-0 in its exhibition game on Wednesday night...

The two teams played a customized format of three 30-minute periods as opposed to the regular-season format of two 45-minute periods.

Minnesota, playing without numbered uniforms, scored five minutes into the first period to take an early lead. The team scored two more goals in the first period, the third hitting the back of the net as time expired.

Freshman Alyssa Brazil recorded the Jacks only shot in the first period.

The second period started in similar fashion, as the Golden Gophers scored around the five-minute mark to increase the lead to four goals.

SDSU played the first period and the first half of the second period against a stiff wind before changing ends.

Both teams went scoreless for the remainder of the period with Minnesota leading 4-0.

In the third period, the two teams went scoreless. Freshman goalkeeper Blaklee McMillen entered the game for the final 20 minutes and made three saves.

Sophomore Jordyn Smith registered the second shot of the game for the Jacks, the first and only on goal.

The game ended 4-0 in favor of the Golden Gophers.

The Jacks return to action Friday in its second and final exhibition game this season against Nebraska. Game time is set for 5 p.m. in Brookings.
