Minneapolis — The South Dakota State Women’s Cross Country finished third today (Friday, Sept. 7) at the OZ Memorial.
Laura Lawton led the young Jackrabbit team with a 19th place finish with a time of 23:29.33.
Cheyanne Bowers competed in her first race for SDSU, and was able to complete the challenging course in 23:48.39. Bowers ended the race in 29th place.
Samantha Anderson was the next Jackrabbit to finish the race with a 41st place and time of 24:30.95.
Right behind Anderson was Jessica Eibs in the 51st spot in a time of 24:43.00.
Seconds after Eibs crossed the finish line was Jenna Grossenburg who finished 53th. Grossenburg timed in at 24:45.71.
Rounding out the group was Kirsten Anderson with a 87th place finish. Anderson’s time on the day was a 26:27.43.
All Jackrabbit runners were true freshmen, excluding Lawton who is a redshirt freshman.
In the end, Minnesota took first with 15 points, Drake finished second with 76 points, Minnesota State Mankato and South Dakota State tied for third with 105 points. Northern Iowa was in fourth one point behind the Mavericks and Jackrabbits. In last was Minnesota Duluth with 126 points.
Jackrabbit fans will be able to see their favorite team run this Friday, Sept. 14 as the Cross Country teams will be at home competing in the SDSU Classic. The races will begin about 6:15 p.m. at the Edgebrook Country Course.
