Women's golf in 13th at Redbird Invitational

NORMAL, Ill. -- The South Dakota State women’s golf team got the fall season underway Saturday with the opening two rounds of the Redbird Invitational hosted by Illinois State.

After day one of the tournament, the Jackrabbits sit at 13th out of 15 teams with a total team score of 656 (318, 338).Morgan Fitts has been the top golfer for SDSU so far with scores of 76 and 78 (154) through two rounds and sits in a tie for 17th.

Freshman Michaela Kouri shot 81 and 84 (165) in her first rounds of collegiate golf which has her in a tie for 51st along with teammate and fellow freshman Sydney MacDonald, who carded scores of 78 and 87 (165) for the day.

Alli Plath is in a tie for 75th with rounds of 83 and 89 (172) and Brianna Janu finished day one with rounds of 90 and 91 (181) for 85th place.

Illinois State’s Katie Jean has a three-stroke lead heading into Sunday’s final round after posting scores of 70 and 75 (145) on Saturday. Toledo holds the lead in the team standings after carding a 610 total team score, three strokes better than Bowling Green State.

The Redbird Invitational concludes with round three on Sunday morning.
