ST. LOUIS -- South Dakota State's Austin Sumner and T.J. Lally have been recognized by the Missouri Valley Football Conference as players of the week following the Jackrabbits' 41-28 Hobo Day victory over Youngstown State on Oct. 27.
A sophomore quarterback from Brandon, Sumner earned the MVFC Offensive Player of the Week award after setting a career high with five touchdown passes and also recording a
season high with 351 yards passing. Sumner, who finished the game 19-of-28 passing, threw
three touchdown passes as part of a 28-point second quarter. His five
touchdown passes -- all to different receivers -- covered 6, 50, 13, 17
and 49 yards.
Lally, a redshirt freshman linebacker from Chicago, earned his third MVFC Newcomer of the Week award this season. He made eight tackles and intercepted a pass in the win over Youngstowns State.
Lally returned his interception 13 yards to the YSU 15 to set up the
third of SDSU's four second-quarter touchdowns.
The Jackrabbits, 6-2 overall and 4-1 in league play, resume action Saturday (Nov. 3) at Southern Illinois
