Diving records fall in win
BROOKINGS, S.D. -- The South Dakota State men's swimming and diving team defeated St. Cloud State University 177-123 on Saturday afternoon at the HPER Center Pool.
The men won 13 of the 16 events on their way to victory.
Junior diver Clark Kocourek broke his school record and qualified for NCAA Zones in the 1-meter diving with a runner-up score of 322.80. Kocourek also had a personal best in the 3-meter dive with a score of 314.71.
Senior diver Brad Schoreit broke the school record in the 3-meter dive with a third place score of 315.60. Schoreit also had a personal best in the 1-meter dive with a score of 292.35.
Senior Shea Patrick had three individual wins on the day. Patrick won the 100 breaststroke in 59.53 seconds, 200 breaststroke in 2:14.18 and the 400 IM in 4:16.73.
Kyle Ochsner won the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:46.04 and the 1,000 freestyle in 9:44.42.
Phil Albu won the 100 backstroke in 51.59 seconds and the 200 backstroke in a time of 1:54.08.
Wil Hogue won the 50 freestyle in 21.03 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 46.70 seconds.
Garth Wadsworth also won two events, the 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly. Wadsworth's times were 53.67 seconds and 1:57.81.
Blake Yeager won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.81.
The 400-yard medley relay team of Albu, Patrick, Wadsworth and Hogue won with a time of 3:29.70.
The men's swimming and diving team will take on Iowa Central next in Brookings on Feb. 1 at 6 p.m.
