UND edges Jacks in final home dual

BROOKINGS, S.D. -- In the final home dual of the 2012-13 season, the Jackrabbit women’s swimming and diving team fell to University of North Dakota by a final score of 160.5-137.5 on Saturday.

Senior Devonne Dalin turned in a solid performance at the pool for the Jacks, winning the 50-yard freestyle, tying for first place in the 100-yard freestyle, as well as leading-off for the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team. Dalin swam the 50-free in 24.77 seconds and touched the wall at 53.54 seconds, the same time as UND’s Kara Fisher, in the 100-free, for the tie.

The 400-free relay of Dalin, junior Selina Gilbertson, sophomore Nicole Grimit and junior Kaylin Caron took the top spot with a time of 3:37.13.

The 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events both went to Kayce Smith. The freshman swam the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:28.15 and a 100-breast time of 1:07.97.

Freshman diver Olivia Olesiak set another personal-record in the three meter dive with a score of 256.58, besting her previous mark of 241.95.

The butterfly swims went in the Jackrabbits’ favor. Junior Emma Wright had the fastest 200-yard butterfly time on the day, clocking in at 2:12.86. Sophomore Trina Young took the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.43.

The Jacks have one more meet to fine-tune before the Summit League Championships on Feb. 20 in Rochester, Mich. (Oakland hosts). Next weekend the Jacks head to Minneapolis, Minn., for the Minnesota Challenge, which begins at noon on Feb. 8.
