Carson wins the 400-meters

FARGO, N.D. - The men's track and field team found their stride today as they took four of the top five spots in the 400-meter dash. Justin Carson finished first overall with a time of 50.94, his time now ranks eighth in The Summit League.


The men’s heptathlon wrapped up today with Bennett Mercil finishing fifth with 4,569 points. Mercil ranks second all-time in the SDSU record books with his performance today.


In the heptathlon’s 60-meter hurdles, Mercil took third with a time of 8.87. Mercil posted a height of 13’ 05.25 in the pole vault.


Jeremiah Ary placed fourth in the long jump with his distance of 21’ 06.25”. His mark today was a new personal best. His previous mark was 21’ 03.50” set at the USD Alumni Meet last weekend.


LeAndre Kennedy posted another top time in the 60-meter dash, earlier this year he had times of 7.02 and 6.98 seconds; Today he posted a time of 6.99 seconds.


Brian Brochman finished sixth in the mile with his time of 4:29.22.


Grant VanKeulen posted a time of 1:59.28 in the 800-meter run.


Stephen Bruha ran unattached and won the 600-meter run with a time of 1:21.52.


Chris Curry also ran unattached and took second in the 200-meter dash with his time of 22.48 seconds.


In the high jump, Connor Berg placed fifth with a height of 6’ 02.00”.


Ryan Schaefer recorded a height of 15’ 07.00” in the pole vault; his mark is currently ranks fourth in The Summit League.


Jake Sanderson took second in the triple jump with his mark of 44’ 06.00”.


The Jackrabbits sent a select group of men to compete at the Husker Invite as well as the Thundering Herd Classic. SDSU were able to collect top times from their events. 


Phillip LaVallee placed eighth in the mile as he finished in 4:17.10.


Drew Kraft shaved off time of his personal best in the 3000-meter run. Last week Kraft ran the event in 8:40.34; today he ran an 8:40.20.


Trent Lusignan and Anthony Bongard went nine and ten with times of 8:30.46 and 8:30.94 respectively.


In the consolation round of the 400-meters, Luke Leischner finished second. Leischner had a time of 48.61.

The Jackrabbits are back in action again next weekend as they travel to ISU Classic for events on Friday and Saturday. The ISU Classic is hosted by Iowa State and will take place in Ames, Iowa.
