The South Dakota State men's and women's tennis teams opened the spring trip with a sweep versus Ohio Dominican on Monday.

Playing in Orlando, Fla., the SDSU women won 4-3, while the SDSU men won 5-2.

On the women's side, the Panthers won the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Ffion Davies and Jenny Blackburne teamed up at the top spot and defeated Carla Leggett and Anita Girizd in convincing fashion 8-2, but it was not enough as ODU secured the team point.

The Jackrabbits needed to win four singles matches to win the meet and that is exactly what happened.

Davies reached double-digit wins on the season, the first SDSU player to do so, with her 10th win in 12 matches. Davies made it a clean sweep versus Leggett with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 2.

Ohio Dominican won at No. 1 in a third-set super tiebreaker and in straight sets at No. 3, but the Jacks dominated at the lower spots in the lineup, winning in straight sets at No. 4, 5 and 6.

Beatriz Souza matched Davies' score in a win versus Girizd at No. 4. Tacy Haws-Lay lost the fewest games of any player in a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 versus Regina Camberos. Tiffany Filipovich won SDSU's fourth singles match of the meet at No. 6, a 6-1, 6-2 win versus Krista Derry.

The win pushed the Jacks' record to 6-6. SDSU continues its spring trip in Florida on Tuesday versus Presbyterian.

On the men's side, SDSU won the doubles point with consistent wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Andrea Boglić and Parker Lawley won by two breaks of serve at the top spot versus Walid Gtari and Patrick Ohanian, as did Mateus Moreira and Lucas Pereira at the bottom spot versus Tito Bonadonna and Jeremy Mokry.

In singles, the men matched the women's feat with four singles wins, despite only needing three.

The Panthers once again won at the top spot, but the Jacks won at the next three spots and added the No. 6 match, as well. All matches were decided in straight sets.

Moreira was a 7-5, 6-1 winner at No. 2 versus Tyler Johnston. Henrique Pereira won at No. 3 versus Bonadonna, 6-3, 6-2. Lawley mirrored Pereira's win and finished the calendar week undefeated with a 6-2, 6-3 win versus Mokry at No. 4.

L. Pereira closed out the meet with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win at No. 6 versus Gerardo Perez.

The win pushed the Jacks' record to 3-7. SDSU continues its spring trip in Florida on Tuesday versus Presbyterian.
