Wrestling up for Social Media Award
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The South Dakota State wrestling program has been named a finalist for the Top Newcomer Best of Brand Award. The award, handed out by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), in coordination with Elite Sport Marketing (ELSM), recognizes the program that made the biggest entrance into the social media scene during the previous season.
SDSU is one of six programs nominated for the award and leads all nominees with almost 3,200 Facebook page likes. “South Dakota State Jackrabbit Wrestling” features videos, photos and event pages, along with unique incoming recruit bios.
On Twitter, the Jackrabbits have almost 700 followers and are closing in on 1,000 tweets. SDSU Wrestling remains active on Twitter both in and out of season.
Jackrabbit Wrestling also continue to expand its YouTube channel. Highlighting its YouTube account is “Jacked Up Mondays,” which is a segment that features head coach Chris Bono recapping the previous week, while also forecasting what is on the horizon for the Jacks.
SDSU is joined by Appalachian State, John Hopkins, North Carolina, Roger Williams University and Wabash as finalists.
To become a finalist, programs are evaluated throughout the year on how effective the they combine content, visual appeal and interactivity into their chose social media platforms.
