Three Jacks honored by the USTFCCCA
Garner and Potts both graduated this past spring, while Olson will be a senior this upcoming fall. All three athletes qualified for the 2013 NCAA West Preliminary Round this past June.
Garner recently graduated with a degree in nursing. During her time at SDSU she won 32 career events, including setting numerous records. She had a solid senior year as she swept the discus and the hammer throw at The Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Garner qualified for the 2013 NCAA West Preliminary Round in both the discus and hammer throw. She currently holds three South Dakota State records.
Olson is a senior majoring in psychology, while maintaining a 4.0 grade point average. Olson placed third in the high jump at The Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships with her mark of 5’ 8.00”. Her mark at The Summit League Championships qualified her for the 2013 NCAA West Preliminary Round. Olson also was named to the team last year.
Potts graduated with a 4.0 GPA in the nursing program. During the indoor season she finished second overall in the mile at The Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships with her time of 5:02.89. At the Beach Invite back in April, Potts set the SDSU record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with her time of 10:34.90. Her time also helped her qualify for the 2013 NCAA West Preliminary Round.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field team, the student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have participated in the NCAA Division I Championships (preliminary rounds are included).
