Men's golf places 13th in Colorado
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Freshman Grant Smith fired an even-par 70 in the final round of the Ram Masters Invitational on Tuesday, helping the South Dakota State men's golf team to a 13th place finish.
Smith (+9) tied for 34th place at the 7,121-yard, par-70 Fort Collins Country Club, carding rounds of 70, 79 and 70 for a two-day total of 219 (career low). The freshman notched four birdies in the final round, giving him nine birdies overall at the tournament.
As a team, the Jackrabbits shot rounds of 298, 304 and 290 for a 54-hole score of 892, edging out Weber State (294-299-300-893) by one stroke.
Senior Hudson Carpenter (+11) tied for 41st place with rounds of 77, 72 and 72 for a total score of 221.
Dylan Baker (+20) posted rounds of 76, 81 and 73 for a score of 230. The sophomore finished tied for 77th place.
Two Jackrabbits tied for 79th place with scores of 231. Senior Lukas Davison shot rounds of 80, 76 and 75 and freshman Ian Rinken scored rounds of 75, 77 and 79.
New Summit League member University of Denver edged out tournament host Colorado State for the team title. Denver had rounds of 287, 288 and 272 (847) and CSU had scores of 280, 284 and 284 (848).
Denver's Oskar Arvidsson (-6) and CSU's Cameron Harrell (-6) tied for first place with scores of 204. Arvidsson posted rounds of 72, 68 and 64, and Harrell had scores of 70, 67 and 67.
Next up, SDSU plays host for the second annual Jackrabbit Fall Invitational, held Sept. 23-24 at the Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls, S.D.
