Pirates pillage Jackrabbits in Texas
EL PASO, Texas – The South Dakota State volleyball team kicked off the UTEP/New Mexico State Invitational on Friday with a loss to the Hampton Lady Pirates, falling in straight sets by the scores of 25-19, 31-29 and 25-20.
“We struggled today defensively, Hampton was just more aggressive than we were,” head coach Phil McDaniel said. “We need to step it up tonight against UTEP.”

Hampton’s Vendula Strakova led all players with 26 kills, hitting .488 in the match with five errors in 43 attacks. Krista Kraskura added 10 kills in the win.
After dropping the first set, the Jacks rallied in a second set that saw 20 tie scores, six lead changes and five set points for SDSU before Strakova ended the set with two straight kills for the Pirates.
The Jackrabbits return to action later on Friday, when they take on the UTEP Miners at 7 p.m. MT, and then head up to Las Cruces, N.M., on Saturday to play New Mexico State at 2 p.m. MT.
