INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The South Dakota State women’s soccer team improved to 2-0 in Summit League play after they defeated IUPUI 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. Delaney Ratcliffe scored the lone goal for the Jackrabbits.

“It was a very hard fought game in the rain today. I thought IUPUI played very well, but give all the credit of our girls after we found a way to win,” noted head coach Lang Wedemeyer. “It is a very good start to conference play, but we know we will have to continue to play well every weekend.”

The Jackrabbit attack started at the 10:48 mark when IUPUI’s goalkeeper Giselle Guzman saved Diana Potterveld’s shot attempt.

IUPUI posted five shot attempts in the first 45 minutes, but the SDSU defense clamped down and kept the Jaguars off the board. Nicole Inskeep made two saves in the first half. Her first save came off a Kalli Shepler-Tucker shot at the 19:41 mark and her second save occurred a few minutes later (26:28) via a shot by Tori Minnich.

SDSU broke the scoreless tie in the 39th minute from Ratcliffe’s second goal of the season. McKenzie Wolf crossed the ball to the left post then Ratcliffe kicked the ball in near the opposite post.

The Jackrabbits controlled the second half of the game as they outshot the Jaguars 4-1 in the final 45 minutes. IUPUI’s best shot attempt of the second half came at the 73:33 mark, when Inskeep stopped Shepler-Tucker’s shot for her third save of the game.

The SDSU balanced attack posted eight total shots during the game. The Jackrabbits tallied four shot attempts in the first half and four in the second.

Darci Miller and Ratcliffe led the SDSU offense with two shots each. Inskeep secured three saves for her seventh clean sheet of the year.

The Jackrabbits improve to 7-3-2 (2-0-0) on the year, while IUPUI falls to 4-5-3 (0-2-0).

SDSU returns to Fishback Soccer Park on Oct. 11 as they host in-state rival South Dakota in the South Dakota Showdown Series. Game time is set for 6 p.m. The Jackrabbits will also host Omaha on Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.
