Jacks, Bison meet in Summit League Tournament

After missing out on The Summit League Soccer Championships last year, the Jackrabbits are have qualified for the 2013 tournament with a second-place finish in the regular season. The Jackrabbits play No. 3 seed North Dakota State Bison Friday in a first round matchup. Game time is set for 8 p.m. (EST) at the Hefner Soccer Complex in Fort Wayne, Ind.

NORTH DAKOTA STATE 8-9-0 (4-3-0)
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE 11-4-2 (6-1-0)

THE BISON
The Bison finished the regular season with an overall record of 8-9-0 and 4-3-0 in conference play. North Dakota State captured the third seed in The Summit League Tournament after Fort Wayne suffered a pair of losses to NDSU (3-1) and SDSU (3-0) in the final weekend of conference play.

Anisha Kinnarath and Lauren Miller have led the Bison offensively. Miller leads the team in goals (nine), assists (five) and points (23). Kinnarath is second on the team in goals (seven) and assists (two). The duo have accounted for 16 of North Dakota State’s 22 goals.

Sierra Bonham has been the No. 1 goalie in net for North Dakota State. Bonham has posted 89 saves goal with a GAAvg of 1.62. She tallied a record of 7-8-0 in the regular season with four shutouts.

THE JACKRABBITS
SDSU claimed the No. 2 seed in The Summit League Tournament after they tallied a record of 11-4-2 overall and 6-1-0 in conference play. The Jackrabbits outscored their conference opponents 8-4.

With solid play by the Jackrabbit defense throughout the year, the offense has been finding different ways to win. Nicole Inskeep and the Jackrabbit defense have posted 11 shutouts in 17 games. She is now tied for the school record for shutouts in a season with 11 (Kat Donovan, 2011).

Coming into this season, Alyssa Brazil had two career goals and zero assists. This season, she has posted five goals, two assists on 27 shot attempts and has two game-winning goals.

Six other Jackrabbits have at least scored two goals on the year.

THE SERIES VS. NORTH DAKOTA STATE
The all-time series is tied at 7-7-2. The Jackrabbits won the lone meeting of 2013, 1-0 in Brookings on Oct. 19.

JACKRABBITS IN THE SUMMIT TOURNAMENT
SDSU is 3-3 all-time in The Summit League Tournament. The Jackrabbits won the 2008 postseason championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA College Cup.

48 IN A ROW
Darci Miller has started all but two games dating back to the beginning of her sophomore season. With a start on Friday against North Dakota State, she will have started 48 consecutive games for SDSU.

PLAYOFFS, YOU TALKING ABOUT PLAYOFFS
After missing The Summit League playoffs last year, the Jackrabbits have clinched a berth in this year’s tournament. SDSU has made the Summit League Postseason Tournament in five of the past six seasons.


DEFENSIVE PRAISE
Inskeep, Katie McNeary, Dani Patterson, McKenzie Wolf have combined for five Summit League Defensive Player of the Week awards (Inskeep has two).

SECOND HALF SURGE
The Jackrabbits are outshooting (121-69) and outscoring (15-5) their opponents in the second half of games this year.

FIVE GOALS, FIVE WINS
The Jacks have won five Summit League games by a combined score of 5-0.

BALANCED ATTACK
Twelve different Jackrabbits have scored at least one goal this year. Eight players have recorded a game-winning goal for the Jackrabbits.

THE RABBIT IN CHARGE
After the first 17 games of the season, head coach Lang Wedemeyer has a career record of 129-101-30.

THE USUAL SUSPECTS
Seven Jackrabbits have started all 17 games this year.

RABBITS ROLLIN’
Since starting 0-2-0 on the season, the Jackrabbits have compiled a record of 11-2-2 in their last 15 games.

With a win against NDSU, the Jackrabbits will play the winner of the Denver/Fort Wayne game on Sunday at noon (EST) in The Summit League Championship game. The winner of The Summit League Tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA College Cup.
