Jackrabbits set for Alumni Open and Husker Invite

The South Dakota State track and field teams are set to compete at the USD Alumni Open (University of South Dakota) and the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite (Nebraska) this weekend. The Alumni Open takes place on Saturday (Feb. 8) and the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite is a two-day meet on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 7-8).  

The USD Alumni Open:
The USD Alumni Open is held at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D. The action begins on Saturday with the men’s weight throw (10:45 a.m.). The prelims of the women’s 60-meter hurdles start the running events at 1 p.m.

The Frank Sevigne Husker Invite:
The Frank Sevigne Husker Invite is held at the Devaney Center Indoor Track in Lincoln, Neb. Only a handful of Jackrabbits are competing this weekend at Nebraska. The schedule for SDSU is as follows:

Friday:

Last Time Out:
The Jackrabbits split squads last weekend as they sent groups to the Iowa State Bill Bergan Invite and the Minnesota State Open. SDSU had six student-athletes post SDSU top-10 all-time marks, including Mary Wirth who topped her own school record. Wirth won the high jump event at the MSU Open with a height of 5-10. Her height ranks tied for 23rd in Division I. Also at the MSU Open, Logan Amdahl posted the seventh-highest pole vault mark in school history as she cleared a height of 10-8 ¼ and Jenna Stephens jumped a distance of 37-3 ¾ in the triple jump event; her mark ranks ninth all-time.

At the Iowa State Bill Bergan Invite, Joel Reichow ran the sixth-fastest 3k time (8:23.39) in school history and Carly Carper posted the fourth-fastest 200-meter dash time (25.10) in school history as well.

Looking Ahead:
The Jackrabbits are scheduled to attend the Iowa State Classic and Bison Open next weekend. The Iowa State Classic is a two-day (Feb. 14-15) meet in Ames, Iowa and the Bison Open is on Feb. 15, in Fargo, N.D.
