Husman claims 400-meter dash title at USD

VERMILLION, S.D. - Marc Husman claimed his first 400-meter dash title of his Jackrabbit career on Saturday as the Jackrabbits competed at the USD Alumni Open and the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite. He won the event with his personal-best time of 50.45 seconds.

Also in the 400-meter dash, three other Jackrabbits finished in the top-10.  Alex Wiemann placed seventh overall with his overall time of 52.31. Adam Halverson and Levi Winkels rounded out the top-10 with their ninth- and 10th-place finishes. Halverson ran a time of 52.64 and Winkels posted a final time of 52.83. Halverson’s time today is a personal best.

Halverson also set a personal best in the 200-meter dash; he ran a time of 23.07 to finish 11th overall.

LeAndre Kennedy placed fourth overall in the 60-meter dash with his season-best time of 7.03. In the prelims of 60-meter dash, Kennedy qualifed for the finals with his time of 7.10. Also in the 60-meter dash, Bo Arnold tied his season-best time of 7.18 to take 11th overall.

Jesse Dunn placed ninth overall in the 200-meter dash with his personal-best time of 22.84.

In the 800-meter run, Dylan Slaba led the Jackrabbits with his third-place finish (1:58.67).

Jensen Orlow was the lone Jackrabbit to compete in the 3,000-meter run; he ran a final time of 9:41.25.

Traxton Priebe and Jared Thomsen finished back-to-back in the 60-meter hurdles. They both finished with a final time of 8.89, but Priebe claimed fourth and Thomsen took fifth.

Jake Sanderson and Connor Berg finished third and fourth in the high jump event. They both posted a height of 6 feet, 2 ¾ inches.

Nathaniel Schaefer was two inches shy of tying his personal best mark in the pole vault event. He claimed sixth overall with his height of 14-11. Bennett Mercil was also two inches shy of his personal best in the pole vault. He posted a height of 13-11 ¼ to take eighth-place.

Jeremiah Ary led the Jackrabbits in both the long jump and triple jump events. Ary claimed second overall in the long jump with his distance of 22-1 ¾ and took third overall in the triple jump with his mark of 43-9 ¼.

Austin Benson posted a top-five finish in the shot put event. He recorded a mark of 47-11 ¼ to place fourth overall.

In the weight throw event, Ryan Ackman and Cullen Mack both finished in the top-five. Ackman took third-place with his season-best throw of 52-6 ¾ and Mack recorded a distance of 51-10 ½ to place fourth overall.

Nebraska Results:

Two Jackrabbit men competed on Saturday at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite and Trevor Capra ran on Friday night. Joel Reichow posted a ninth-place finish in the men’s 3,000-meter run (Invite); he finished the race with a time of 8:27.19. Andrew Thies placed 16th overall in the men’s 3,000-meter run with his final time of 8:45.29.

Capra was the lone Jackrabbit to compete on Friday night. He clocked in at 15:07.94 to place 13th overall in the 5,000-meter run.

The Jackrabbits will be in action next weekend at the Iowa State Classic and the Bison Open. The Iowa State Classic is a two-day meet (Feb. 14-15), while the Bison Open takes place on Saturday.
