Jacks' tennis win a pair Saturday

St. Peter, Minn. -- South Dakota State picked up a pair of 7-0 wins over Winona State and Minnesota State Saturday.

Florencia Magni won No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-2 against WSU, while Ffion Davies won No. 2 7-6, 6-4. Iasmin Rosa won, 6-0, 6-1 and Jenny Blackburne won 6-1, 6-0. Beatriz Souza and Tacy Haws-Lay each won, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, Davies/Blackburne won 8-0, Magni/Rosa won 8-2 and Souza/Haws-Lay won 8-5.

"Today was a good building day for us," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We had some specific goals we wanted to achieve and we were able to get them done."

Against MSU it was more of the same as Magni, Blackburne and Haws-Lay all won, 6-0, 6-0. Davies, Rosa and Souza won handily, too as Davies won 6-3, 6-1 and Rosa and Souza each won 6-1, 6-0.

SDSU once again swept doubles, as Davies/Blackburne won 8-4, Rosa/Haws-Lay won 8-3 and Magni/Filipovich won 8-5.

"Anytime you can will all your matches, it shows you have focus and the girls proved their mental stamina today."

The Jacks return to the court next weekend vs. DePaul and Valparaiso.
