Jacks' women drop 4-3 decision to Grand Canyon
CHICAGO -- South Dakota State (4-3 overall) went 3-3 in singles against Grand Canyon Friday night, but dropped the decisive double's point en route to a 4-3 defeat to the Lopes.
"These are the matches where it comes down to one or two points a set and we need to get better in these types of matches," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "I'm confident we'll get better in the tight moments and we will be ready for St. Francis."
SDSU dropped the top-three singles matches, but rebounded to win at the fourth, fifth and sixth positions. Jenny Blackburne, Beatriz Souza and Tacy Haws-Lay each won their respective matches to tie the match up heading into doubles, where SDSU lost all three matches.
Blackburne won 6-2, 2-6, 10-5, Souza won 7-5, 3-2 (ret.) and Haws-Lay won 6-4, 6-1.
SDSU continues play today against St. Francis.
