NCEA honors 14 Jackrabbits for academics
The National Collegiate Equestrian Association handed out its academic awards this week, and 14 South Dakota State riders earned honors; three NCEA Academic First Team selections, one honorable mention and 10 honor roll picks.
“We’re very proud that we not only have talented athletes on our team, but also diligent students who put as much effort in to their studies as they do their sport,” head coach Megan Rossiter said.
To earn a first team selection, a rider must compete in 70 percent of her team’s meets and maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average over the previous two semesters.
A 2013 NCEA All-American in reining, Dunlavy posted a 5-5-1 record in her senior season with a trio of MOP awards, all while maintaining a 3.812 GPA as a HPER major.
Goodall competed in both equitation on the flat and over fences in 2014, with a 3-7-2 mark over fences with one MOP, and an 0-4 record on the flat. In the classroom, she posted a perfect 4.0 GPA as a Spanish major.
Adding to her long list of academic accomplishments, Webb earned first team honors after posting a 4.0 GPA as an education major with 3-5-1 record in the horsemanship ring.
Junior Mandy Gradert represents the Jackrabbits as an NCEA Academic Team honorable mention pick. The junior maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA in graphic design, with a 1-6-1 record on the flat with one MOP award.
An NCEA Academic honorable mention rider must compete in at least 50 percent of her team’s meets and maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average over the previous two semesters.
A total of 10 Jackrabbits made the 2014 NCEA Academic Honor Roll, which means that they compiled a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 over the last two semesters.

The 2013-14 Jackrabbit equestrian season came to an end on March 29, following the Jacks win over UT-Martin to capture the Independent Championship title. SDSU finished the season with a 3-9 overall record.
