Jackrabbits post top-five finishes at USD Snowbird
YANKTON, S.D. – In their second weekend of competition during the outdoor season, the South Dakota State men’s track and field team posted strong results at the USD Snowbird Saturday. Numerous Jackrabbits finished in the top-five in their events throughout the day.
Jake Sanderson went on to win the triple jump with his mark of 46 feet, 11 3/4 inches.
Drew Kraft and Brendan Sage led the Jackrabbits in the 1,500- and 5,000-meter run. Kraft (4 minutes, 3.83 seconds) and Sage (4:05.15) took first and second in the 1,500-meter run. In the 5,000-meter run, Sage placed fourth (15:31.38) and Kraft posted a fifth-place finish (15:33.73).
In the 200-meter dash, three Jackrabbit sprinters finished in the top-five. Marc Husman (22.09) led the Jackrabbit contingent with his third-place finish. Kory Kohlhof and Adam Halverson rounded out the top-five with the fourth- and fifth-place finishes, respectively. Kohlhof ran a time of 22.27 and Halverson posted a final time of 22.31.
Husman also led the Jackrabbits in the 400-meter dash. Husman and three other Jackrabbit sprinters placed in the top-five. Husman placed second with his time of 49.22. Halverson took third (51.22), Jesse Dunn placed fourth (51.24) and Levi Winkels crossed the finish line in 51.49 to place fifth.
Bennett Mercil posted a time of 16.59 in the 110-meter hurdles to take fifth. He also placed fifth in the long jump with his mark of 20-10 1/2.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Justin Carson (55.74) placed second.
Blair Seymour won the javelin throw with his distance of 169-0.
The 4x100-meter relay team ran a time of 42.74 and the 4x400-meter relay team clocked in at 3:25.76.
Ryan Schaefer posted a personal-best height of 15-1 in the pole vault. He finished fourth overall in the event.
Jeremiah Ary tallied a pair of top-three finishes (long jump, triple jump). He took second in the long jump with his mark of 23-6 1/4 and in the triple jump he placed third with his distance of 45-7 1/4.
In hammer throw, Ackman took third with his distance of 176-0 and Mack placed fourth with his mark of 172-0.
Zach Koosman competed at the Arkansas Spring Inviational Saturday. He posted a height of 6-6 3/4 in the high jump to place ninth.
The Sioux City Relays and the Nebraska Quad are up next for the Jackrabbits. The Sioux City Relays is a two-day meet (Friday and Saturday) in Sioux City, Iowa, and the Nebraska Quad is Saturday in Lincoln, Neb.
