Carpenter Wins Second Title
JONESBORO, Ark. — Senior Hudson Carpenter shot a four-under par 68 Tuesday to win the 19th annual ASU Red Wolf Intercollegiate at the RidgePointe Country Club and help the South Dakota State men’s golf team finish fifth.
Carpenter (Stillwater, Minn.), who won the Jackrabbit Fall Invitational earlier this season, won his second title by shooting a two-under par 211 (76-67-68), beating Belmont’s Ben Simpson by three strokes.
In the third round, Carpenter was four-under on the front nine with birdies on the first, second and fifth holes and an eagle on the ninth. The senior was one over on the back nine. For the event, Carpenter had nine birdies and an eagle.
The Jacks shot an 889 (314-287-288) to record their second consecutive top-five finish and third of the season. Arkansas State won the title with an 862 (285-295-282) at the par-72, 6,565-yard layout.
Freshman Grant Smith (Des Moines, Iowa) finished 17th after shooting a 221 with rounds of 78, 72 and 71.
Sophomore Dylan Baker (Eden Prairie, Minn.) shot a 228 with rounds of 80, 74 and 74 to tie for 35th.
The Jackrabbits return action April 21-23 at The Summit League Championship in Keller, Texas.
