Jackrabbit women continue success out west

NORWALK, Calif. – The South Dakota State women’s track and field team carried their momentum from their first two days in California into the Long Beach State Invite. Four SDSU top-10 marks were set Saturday at the Long Beach State Invite, including Alex Suhr’s time of 10 minutes, 59.56 seconds in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Suhr ran a personal-best time of 10:59.56 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She placed eighth overall in the race and her time now ranks seventh all-time at SDSU.

Jazzelena Black recorded a personal-best distance of 19 feet, 3/4 inch to take second in the long jump event. Her mark today moves her into third all-time at SDSU. Also in the long jump event, Carly Carper placed third with her distance of 18-8 1/2.

Carper also recorded a top-five finish in the 100-meter dash. She posted a time of 11.99 to place second.

Trisha Sumption placed 12th in the hammer throw with her mark of 162-5.

In the 1500-meter run, Brooke Peterson posted a final time of 4:50.30 to place 72nd.

Marissia Hagedorn clocked in for a time of 14.96 to take 21st in the 100-meter hurdles.

Jacleen Patterson finished 59th in the 400-meter dash as she clocked in at 1:00.09.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Hagedorn, Black, Gina Fritz and Carper combined for a time of 47.43. Overall, they placed eighth in the event and their time now ranks ninth all-time at SDSU.

Fritz represented the Jackrabbits in the 200-meter dash. Fritz ran an overall time of 25.28 to finish 25th.

In the javelin throw, Amy Paulzine rounded out the top-10 with her distance of 139-4. Paulzine also placed 12th in the discus throw with her mark of 151-4.

McKenzie Johnson led the Jackrabbit women in the shot put event. Johnson claimed sixth-place with her toss of 46-4 3/4.

Jessica Eibs finished the 800-meter run in a time of 2:14.41. She took 56th overall in the race.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Lori Foltz and Hagedorn finished 30th and 43rd, respectively. Foltz posted a time of 1:04.31 and Hagedorn crossed the finish line in a time of 1:06.05.

The Jackrabbits are scheduled to compete at the Drake Relays (April 25-26) and the Mount Marty Invite (April 19) next week.
