Jackrabbit throwers PR at Mount Marty

YANKTON, S.D. – Shelby Assmus and Amy Paulzine each tallied a win Tuesday at the Mount Marty Twilight. Along with Assmus and Paulzine winning, the Jackrabbits set personal-best performances throughout the day.

The Jackrabbits had four throwers place in the top-10 of the hammer throw event. Assmus won the event with her final distance of 170 feet, 5 inches. Also placing in the top-10 of the hammer throw for the Jackrabbits were Trisha Sumption, McKenzie Johnson and Paulzine.

Sumption rounded out the top-three with her distance of 165-5, while Johnson and Paulzine finished back-to-back with their fifth- and sixth-place finishes, respectively. Johnson tallied a distance of 160-11 and Paulzine posted a mark of 160-4.

Paulzine posted a personal-best distance of 161-3 en route to winning the discus throw. Her mark today also moves her into fourth all-time at SDSU. The Jackrabbits also had two other throwers join Paulzine in the top-five.

Assmus claimed the runner-up spot with her personal-best mark of 156-11. She moves into the sixth spot all-time at SDSU. Silvia Zanini also posted a top-five finish as she placed fourth (152-8).

Zanini led the Jackrabbits in the shot put with her fourth-place finish (42-9 1/2).  Zanini also placed 11th in the javelin throw with her distance of 103-8.

Erin Ellinger claimed sixth-place in the javelin throw with her personal-best toss of 112-6.

Jazzelena Black represented the Jackrabbits in the long jump. Black claimed the runner-up spot with her distance of 18-4 1/4.

In the pole vault event, Courtney Trapp posted a fifth-place finish with her height of 10-8.

In the 100-meter dash, Sydney Proiette posted a personal-best time of 13.12 seconds en route to a 12th-place finish. She also ran a time of 27.49 in the 200-meter dash to take 17th.

Nina Tucker clocked in for a final time of 27.41 in the 200-meter dash to place 16th.

Evelyn Klein posted a personal-best time of 1:08.03 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish sixth.

In the 800-meter run, Karley Konkol ran a time of 2:18.26 to place fourth.

Melissa Knobloch placed 17th in the women’s 1,500-meter run as she posted a time of 5:25.27.

The Jackrabbits are slated to compete at the 105th Drake Relays this weekend.
