Jacks Take Third at Summit Championship
KELLER, Texas—Seniors Hudson Carpenter and Lukas Davison both finished tied for seventh overall as the South Dakota State men’s golf team placed third for the second consecutive year at the 2014 Summit League Men’s Golf Championship at the Sky Creek Ranch in Keller, Texas.
The Jacks shot a final-round 294 at the 72, 6,953-yard layout and finished the championship with a 911 (306-311-294). Denver won the title, shooting a 898 for the three-day event.
Carpenter shot a 79 and 227 (75-73-79) for the championship. The Stillwater, Minn., native birdied the fourth and sixth holes. Davison (Fargo, N.D.) shot a final-round 76 (75-76-76=227) with a birdie on the sixth hole.
Freshman Grant Smith (Des Moines, Iowa) fired a par 72 with birdies the 5th, 7th and 12th holes to finish tied for 16th (78-80-72=230).
Freshman Trevor Tobin (Brandon) shot a season-best one-over par 73 to finish tied for 24th (78-82-73=233). He shot an even par 36 on the front nine and was one over on the back. Tobin birdied the 4th, 6th, 7th and 12th holes.
Sophomore Dylan Baker (Eden Prairie, Minn.) shot a 73 (78-0-73=151). He was an even par 36 on the front nine and was one over on the final nine.
