Softball struggles in home losses
The South Dakota State softball team’s two-game winning streak came to a halt on Thursday with a pair of losses to South Dakota, as the Jackrabbits fell 8-0 and 10-0 against the Coyotes in the South Dakota Corn Showdown Series.
The losses drop the Jacks to 9-31 on the season overall and to 2-15 in The Summit League, while the Coyotes improve to 27-17 overall and to 8-5 in the league.
Coyote starting pitcher Rachel Cue won both games in the circle tossing a one-hit shutout in the opener, and a three-hit shutout in the nightcap. On the day, she tossed all 10 innings, with eight strikeouts and one walk.
Alyssa D'Agostino got the lone hit for the Jacks in Game 1, and went 1 for 2 in the nightcap. Vanessa Kellems also singled in Game 2, with the third hit coming from Allison Huffman, a double in the fourth inning.
The Jacks look to regroup and end the series, and Summit League play for the season, with a win in the finale on Saturday at noon.
