FORT WAYNE, Ind. - IPFW pushed a run across in the bottom of the 10th inning to record a 3-2 victory over South Dakota Sunday afternoon and secure a split in a four-game Summit League baseball series.

The Mastodons improved to 10-20 overall and 2-2 in league play. SDSU dropped to 8-17-1 on the season and 2-2 in The Summit League.

The Jackrabbits took a 1-0 lead in their first at-bat as Daniel Marra tripled with one out and scored on a wild pitch.

SDSU added to its lead with a run in the top of the seventh as Zach Briggs scored on a wild pitch after drawing a walk.

IPFW knotted the game at 2-all in the home half of the seventh. Malcolm White walked and scored on a triple by Shane Trevino. Trevino later scored on a single by Kristian Gayday.

The Jackrabbits squandered opportunities to take the lead with a man on third base and one out in both the eighth and 10th innings. In the eighth, Eric Cain was thrown out at home after a fly ball to center field off the bat of Briggs. The 10th inning rally was thwarted when Briggs struck out with runners at the corners and Aaron Machbitz grounded out.

The Mastodons put together the winning rally against SDSU reliever Shane Kraemer in the 10th. Caleb Feninore led off with a walk and moved to second when Lucas Salerno reached on an error. Both runners moved up a base on Clay Hathaway's sacrifice bunt. After Daren Boss was intentionally walked to load the bases, Carter DeBoe ended the game with a base hit to right field.

DeBoe tallied two of IPFW's six hits. Phil Paquette was 2-for-5 for the Jackrabbits, who ended the afternoon with five hits.

Kolton Emery started for the Jackrabbits and worked 3 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out three and walking one. Austin Busse pitched 5 2/3 strong innings in relief, allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts and a walk.

Steve Danielak earned the victory in relief as he hurled 1 1/3 scoreless innings with a strikeout.

SDSU is scheduled to play its home opener Tuesday against Mount Marty. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Erv Huether Field.
