The Summit League Preseason Poll

ELMHURST, Ill. -- The Summit League released its women's cross-country preseason poll Thursday, and South Dakota State has been picked for a second-place finish.

North Dakota State was picked first overall by the league with 64 points, and eight first-place votes. The Bison are the defending champs from last season.

The Jackrabbits claimed the second position with 53 points. Last year, SDSU finished fourth in The Summit League.

Kansas City was the only other school to receive a first-place vote. They were picked third with 48 points, and one first-place vote.

Erin Hargens, and Tera Potts are both returning to the Jackrabbits this year. Hargens finished 17th, and Potts finished 20th at the Summit League Championships last season.

The Jackrabbits will begin their season next Friday (Aug. 31) at the NDSU Open in Fargo, N.D. with a start time of 6 p.m.

5. 37 Points - Oakland
6. 23 Points - IUPUI
