South Dakota State and Iowa State have reached an agreement to play each other in the 2018 football season opener.

The game is set for Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa. The teams last played in 2008, with the Cyclones winning 44-17 on their home field.

"We are very excited about the chance to play the Cyclones again and the Jackrabbits will be ready," SDSU head coach John Stiegelmeier said. "Our 2008 game in Ames was our first FBS contest of the Division I era. Hopefully we will be able to perform better than we did that day. I know coach Rhoads has done may great things during his tenure and we will expect the Cyclones to continue to be an excellent football program."

SDSU now has four games against Football Bowl Subdivision opponents scheduled for future seasons: 2013 at Nebraska, 2014 at Missouri, 2015 at Minnesota and 2018 at Iowa State.

The Cyclones have won the three previous meetings in the series, which dates back to 1952.
