The South Dakota State equestrian team rode to an 8-8 tie with No. 3 Georgia on Saturday at the DeHaan Equestrian Center, but the Jackrabbits won the tiebreaker by a tight 1,201-1,198 margin to secure the win.
"This was a huge win for us today," head coach Megan Rossiter said. "Every single rider rode well, which is what it takes to beat a team of this caliber. This win sends our riders into tomorrow show against New Mexico State feeling confident and strong."
Santana Wright led the way for the Jacks over the two day show, which started with hunt seat events on Friday. The senior scored points in both fences and flat, where she earned MVP honors for the third time this season. Overall, Wright improves to 3-4 on the flat and to 1-5 over fences.
The Jackrabbit reiners continued to ride well, namely Laura Dunalvy and Jana Basler, who both won points and both improved to 5-1 on the season.
Now 3-3 on the season, the Jackrabbit equestrian team returns to action on Sunday against No. 9 New Mexico State at the DeHaan Center. The riding begins at 8 a.m.
