Swimming and diving wraps up Jean Freeman Invite

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Devonne Dalin set the school record in the 100-yard freestyle on day two of the Jean Freeman Invitational, which wrapped up Saturday night for the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams.

Dalin won the 100-free in a time of 52.19, breaking teammate Kaylin Caron’s record of 52.26, which Caron set at the 2012 Summit League Championships.

A good share of SDSU swimmers set season-bests at the un-scored meet held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. 

Women

The team of Dalin, Kayce SmithKylie Poel and Bianca Ninneman swam a time of 7:54.20 to win the 800-yard freestyle relay.

Lisa Newberger was runner-up in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:12.12.

Emma Wright was runner-up in the 200-yard butterfly with a season best time of 2:08.37. Trina Young, Poel and Lexi Temperley were third, fourth and fifth in the event.

Shauna FoorNicole GrimitFawn Weihl and Dalin finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:37.26.

Smith placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:05.86 and broke her personal season-best of 1:08.00.

Grimit finished third in the 100-free in a time of 54.13. Paige Weisz finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:28.59.

Wright placed fourth in the 400-yard individual medley, setting a season-best time of 4:41.42.

Andee Budahl swam a season-best 1:56.31 and placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle. 

Budahl also won the 1650-yard freestyle in a time of 17.43.11. Kelsey Boucher swam the event in 18:33.96 to finish second.

The team of Newberger, Smith,Temperley and Abby Zenner set a season-high in the women’s 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:51:21, finishing sixth.

The women’s team travels to Omaha Dec. 8 for the last meet before winter break.

Men

Wil Hogue won the 100-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 46.04. Ben Bolinske also posted a season-best time, placing third in a time of 47.81.

Phil Albu won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.55, a season-best time and also won the 200-yard backstroke in a season-best 1:53.29.

Shea Patrick won the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:07.55, a season-best.

The Jacks took the top three spots in the 1650-yard freestyle swim, with Blake Yeager in first with a time of 16:39.60.Alex McLain and Nathaniel Weinman finished second and third with times of 16:47.78 and 16:53.37, respectively.

SDSU also took the top two spots in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Bolinske, Yann DesjardinsKyle Ochsner and Hogue comprised the winning team in a time of 3:10.04. Albu, McLain, Connor McGinnis and Garth Wadsworth were runners-up in a time of 3:16.72.

Patrick swam a 59.11, a season-best, to finish third in the 100-yard breaststroke.

SDSU finished third in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The team of Wadsworth, McGinnis, Ochsner and Yeager swam a time of 7:04.71.

Diver Clark Kocourek scored a season-best 292.15 in one meter diving, finishing fourth.

Hogue posted his top time of the season in the 200-yard freestyle, 1:44.29, and placed sixth.

McLain also had a season-best swim of 53.31 in the event, finishing in seventh.

The men’s team will be back in the pool Dec. 8 against the University of North Dakota to close out the semester.
