Davies named Player of the Week
South Dakota State women's tennis player Ffion Davies earned Summit League Player of the Week honors for her 4-0 weekend.
Davies won both of her singles matches, one at No. 3 and one at No. 4, as well as both doubles matches (with Jenny Blackburne) at No. 1.
In the weekend and season opener versus St. Louis, Davies and Blackburne scored the most notable win of the day at No. 1, an 8-2 victory versus Mia Elmore (No. 2 singles) and Brooke Urzendowski (No. 3) at the top doubles spot.
Davies followed up the doubles performance with a straight-set, 6-3, 6-4 win versus Madison Cook at No. 4. The singles win put the Jacks on the board, as St. Louis won the team doubles point despite the setback at No. 1.
In the second meet versus SIUE, Davies and Blackburne teamed up once again for a win at the top doubles spot. The pair won 8-6 versus Kali Donner (No. 1 singles) and Monique Krutak (No. 2).
Davies continued the great start to her season in singles with another straight-set, 6-4, 6-2 win versus Haley Ilcewicz at No. 3.
"Ffion had a great weekend of tennis," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "Anytime a freshman can go 4-0 in her first four matches is impressive. There were many positives this weekend, both individually and as a team, and it is nice for Ffion to get the recognition."
