The South Dakota State University football team wrapped up National Signing Day on Wednesday with the late addition of linebacker Anthony Gutierrez.
A 6-2, 210-pounder from Sherman Oaks, Calif., Gutierrez was named team most valuable player and earned a spot in the 2013 Daily News All-Star Game after leading Notre Dame High School with 120 tackles and 14 tackles for loss. He also registered 11 sacks, seven pass deflections, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in earning first-team all-conference recognition. He intends to pursue a degree in business management.
The addition of Gutierrez brings the number of Jackrabbit signees to 18. Head coach John Stiegelmeier also announced Wednesday that 14 other prep standouts have been accepted for admission to South Dakota State and plan to join the football team in the fall.
