The South Dakota State men’s tennis team shut out Chicago State 7-0 on Monday in Chicago.

SDSU won all but one match in its blanking of the Cougars.

In doubles, Chicago State won at the top spot, but the Jacks won at No. 2 and No. 3 to secure the team point.

Mateus Moreira and James Thorp won by one break of service versus Jean Paul Jones and Julian Chavez in the middle spot. Lucas Pereira and Henrique Pereira won in more convincing fashion, losing only one game versus Luis Ulloa and Rashley Yeremia at No. 3.

Singles play was more of the same, as SDSU won all six matches, four in straight sets.

Andrea Boglić split the first two sets with Sergiu Muresan at the top spot, both by a score of 6-3. In the third and decisive set, the two played a super tiebreaker due to a team decision already being reached, and Boglić outlasted Muresan 10-7.

Moreira also needed an additional set versus Mario Noboa at No. 2, but the two played a full third set because a team decision was not yet reached. Moreira battled back after a first-set loss to win both the second and third sets 6-3.

Parker Lawley, H. Pereira, Thorp and L. Pereira were all straight-set winners.

Lawley defeated Chavez 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3, while L. Pereira defeated Ulloa 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6.

H. Pereira and Thorp both won by the greatest margin of victory at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. H. Pereira defeated Jones 6-1, 6-1, while Thorp defeated Yeremia by the same score.

SDSU upped its record to 7-10 overall. The Jacks return to the courts next Tuesday at North Dakota in its final non-conference meet of the season. Meet time is set for 1 p.m. in Grand Forks, N.D.
