Jackrabbit named men's tennis POW
South Dakota State men's tennis student-athlete Andrea Boglić was named The Summit League's Player of the Week for his performances this weekend.
Boglić led the Jacks with a 2-0 singles record at No. 1 and a 1-1 doubles record at the top spot. SDSU was edged by Valparaiso 4-3, but shut out Chicago State 7-0.
In the meet versus Valpo, Boglić did his part with a three-set win in singles and a tiebreaker win in doubles. Boglić and doubles partner Parker Lawley outlasted Eric Honert and Lucas Waak 8-7 (8-6) in SDSU's lone doubles win. Boglić made it a clean sweep over Honert in singles with a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2) victory.
In the weekend cap versus Chicago State, Boglić once again went the distance in singles with a third-set super tiebreaker. Boglić rebounded from a first-set loss to defeat Sergiu Muresan 3-6, 6-3, 10-7. The two did not play a full third set because a team decision had been reached.
Boglić improved to 4-9 in singles and 7-7 in doubles, but 7-3 when teamed with Lawley at the top spot.
It is the first career POW award for Boglić and the second for a Jackrabbit men's tennis player this season. Lawley was named POW on March 5.
The complete release is available on The Summit League website.
The Jacks return to the courts next Tuesday at North Dakota in its final non-conference meet of the season. Meet time is set for 1 p.m. in Grand Forks, N.D.
