TULSA, Okla. -- The South Dakota State men's and women's tennis teams made the trek to the Sooner State for ITA Regional action beginning Thursday afternoon.

Freshman Iasmin Rosa continued her dominate fall season with a pair of wins over opponents from Kansas State and Kansas by scores of 6-3, 7-5 and 6-3, 6-3, respectively. Rosa advances to the main draw and will face Nebraska's Zeppernick tomorrow at morning.

"Iasmin is showing that she thrives in the biggest moments," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "She beat two big-time opponents today to qualify. That is an impressive feat for a freshman and she proved that she belongs with the top players.

After dropping their opening matches, Jenny Blackburne, Ffion Davies, Tiffany Filipovich, Tacy Haws-Lay and Beatriz Souza all bounced back to win their respective second-round matchups.

"I was a little worried the girls were going to be thrown into the first because we were not able to prepare how we would have like leading up to the biggest tournament of the year," Engdahl said, "but I thought we handled ourselves very well overall."

On the men's side, SDSU did not pick up a win in the opening round, but Lovro Curcija, Gary Notkin, Mateus Moreira and Lucas Pereira all bounced back with second-round wins.

"The men competed well all day," Engdahl said. "We had some matches get away that we could have won in the first round. I thought we bounced back really well in our second matches. It really shows that our mental toughness and confidence is growing. Tomorrow will be an exciting day."

Action for both the men and women is slated to begin at 8 a.m.
