Rabbits run to fourth title in five years
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Every point mattered on Saturday morning as the Jackrabbit men’s cross country team was able to defend their 2012 Summit League title. The Jackrabbits won the 2013 title by one point over South Dakota, 41-42.
This is the fourth Summit League title in five years for SDSU.
Trent Lusignan improved from his third place finish from last season as he took home the Summit League Individual Championship. Lusignan won the race with his final time of 24:49.42.
Lusignan has three top-10 finishes in three Summit League conference meets. In 2011, he placed ninth and was named Newcomer of the Championship. He followed up his ninth place run at the 2011 meet with a third place finish last year.
Joel Reichow was the second Jackrabbit runner to cross the finish line. He ran a time of 25:06.23 to take fifth. At last year’s meet he finished 10th overall.
Freshman Brendan Sage rounded out the top-10 for SDSU with his final time of 25:23.23. He was named Newcomer of the Championship for his performance at the meet.
Making his final trip to The Summit League Cross Country Championships, Anthony Bongard placed 11th. Bongard clocked in at 25:27.70.
Drew Kraft completed the 8k course in 25:36.35 to take 14th overall.
In 18th place was Andrew Thies with his final time of 25:53.37.
Christian Karels posted a final time of 26:42.90 to place 27th.
Lusignan and Reichow made the First Team All-League, while Sage, Bongard and Kraft made the Second Team All-League.

The Jackrabbits do not compete next weekend as they prepare for the NCAA Midwest Regional meet on Nov. 15. The Midwest Regionals take place in Ames, Iowa as they are hosted by Iowa State.
