AMES, Iowa – The Jackrabbit women’s cross country team ended their 2013 season with a 15th place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet. Cheyanne Bowers (21:27.43) was the top finisher for the Jackrabbits as she placed 40th overall.

“The great thing about the women’s team, the parts are interchangeable. We had different people in top five today, we had people that stepped up when we needed them to step up," noted head coach Rod DeHaven on the performance of the women’s team. "Your fifth person can be as vital as the first person and we got really good performances out of our top five.”

Bowers’ 40th place finish ties the highest place finish for a SDSU runner at the regional meet. Ashley Storm ran a time of 21:55.1 to take 40th at the 2009 regional meet. Bowers’ also set a personal best in a 6k race today, her previous mark was 21:31.00.

Courtney Neubert was the second Jackrabbit to finish. Neubert ran a time of 21:51.13 to place 74th overall. Less than seven seconds after Neubert finished, Jessica Eibs crossed the finish line. Eibs finished 87th overall, as she ran a final time of 21:57.73.

Alex Suhr was just nine seconds off of setting a personal best, but she clocked in at 22:13.88; she finished 109th overall.

Jenna Grossenburg and Laura Lawton finished within three seconds of each other. Grossenburg (22:34.03) and Lawton (22:36.73) claimed 133rd and 138th, respectively.

After running a time of 23:40.53 at the 2012 Midwest Regional meet, Samantha Anderson posted a time of 23:13.88 at 2013 meet. Anderson finished in 168th.

The women also tied last year’s team as the highest finish at the Midwest Regional meet.

The Jackrabbit women collected 433 points on the afternoon to place 15th overall. SDSU was the top-finisher in The Summit League as North Dakota State took 18th (504) and South Dakota ran to a 22nd place finish (574).
