Field events highlight Bison Classic for SDSU
Assmus tallied two-second place finishes at the Bison Classic. She recorded a mark of 44 feet, 0 inches in the shot put and a distance of 54-3 ¼ in the weight throw. Assmus was the top college athlete in the shot put as Katie Johnson won the event with her final mark of 46-5 ¼, but she was competing unattached. Also in the shot put, Kae Januschka placed eighth overall with her throw of 37-5.
Olson was the lone jumper at Bison Classic representing the Jackrabbits. She recorded a height of 5-3 to place second overall in the high jump event.
In the weight throw, Amy Paulzine made her 2014 indoor season debut with a mark of 52-2 ¾ to take third behind Assmus. Trisha Sumption and Januschka finished back-to-back with 10th and 11th place finishes. Sumption tallied a mark of 44-10 ¾ and Januschka set a personal best with her final distance of 44-6.
On the men’s side, SDSU had four throwers attend today’s meet. Austin Benson made his Jackrabbit debut with a fourth place finish (46-11 ½) in the shot put and Kyle Anderson finished a half an inch behind Benson for fifth overall (46-11).
In the men’s weight throw, SDSU grabbed the eighth through 11th place spots. Cullen Mack (eighth) posted a distance of 48-10 followed by Ryan Ackman (ninth) with his mark of 48-3 ½. Benson collected tenth place with his throw of 45-10 and Anderson (11th) posted a mark of 40-2 ¾.
The Jackrabbits are slated to compete in the Minnesota Jack Johnson Invite next weekend in Minneapolis.
