Fuad Places Third in Utah
ST. GEORGE, Utah — Freshman Islamiah Fuad shot a six-over par 150 to lead the South Dakota State women’s golf team to fifth place Friday at the 2014 Southern Utah University Lady Thunderbird Golf Invitational in St. George, Utah.
Fuad, who entered the final round in 22nd and finished tied for third, shot a 79 on the first 18 holes, but turned a career-best one-under par 71 over the final 18 to finish five strokes off first-place finisher Marissa Borja of Eastern Washington. Fuad (Perak, Malaysia) collected six birdies during the final round.
The Jackrabbits finished 12 strokes behind first place Weber State and Oral Roberts, shooting a 627 on the par-72, 6,092-yard layout. They had 20 birdies on the day.
Sophomore Sydney MacDonald (Calgary, Alberta) shot a nine-over par 153 (76-77) with five birdies, to finish 10th. Freshman Hallie Getz (Pierre) and sophomore Brianna Janu (Glenwood, Minn.) tied for 43rd after posting 165s.
Freshmen Megan Mingo (Yankton) tied for 50th, firing a 170.
Competing as individuals, junior Amber Houser (Northfield, Minn.) and Myranda Dunmire (Palmdale, Calif.) both shot a 159 to tie for 20th while classmate Alli Plath (Onalaska, Wis.) finished tied for 28th, shooting 161.
The Jackrabbits return to action March 17-18 when they host the 5th Annual Jackrabbit Invitational in Primm, Nevada.
