CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- For the second time in as many days, SDSU wrestling was tabbed a finalist for the Best of Brand Awards. Today's announcement by the National Wrestling Coaches Associating, in coordination with Elite Level Sport Marketing, named SDSU as one of 12 finalists for the prestigious Best of Brand Gold Standard Award.

The award, recognized as the highest honor in the Best of Brand Awards program, strives to highlight the collegiate program that sets a unique standard in marketing their programs in an innovative manner.

"This is as big as it gets," head coach Chris Bono said on being nominated for the Gold Standard. "When we first sat down as a staff last summer to talk about branding Jackrabbit Wrestling, we had our eyes on this award. It's great to be recognized as one of the 12 best college programs in terms of branding."

Chattanooga, Drexel, Iowa State, Johns Hopkins, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Princeton, Stanford and Wayland Baptist join SDSU as finalists for the award.

The Gold Standard Award is an evolved version of the Top Newcomer award. In addition to honoring both content and messaging produced by programs, the Gold Standard award recognizes the number of followers a program has and how they interact with them.

"The Best of Brand field was extremely competitive this year with over 100 college programs involved in social media marketing," said ELSM CEO Coyte Cooper. "The fact that we have so many entries indicated that we are continuing to grow our sport through a proactive branding approach at the grassroots level."

From this group of finalists, three will be named as top programs at the NWCA Convention in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in early August. The winner will be honored at a Best of Brand breakfast that focuses on highlighting the unique branding efforts implemented by programs.
