The Jackrabbit women hosting South Dakota in its first-ever home Summit League match on April 11 highlights the 2014-15 slate, as head coach Michael Engdahl announced next season’s opponents Thursday morning.

“The big date we are looking forward to this spring is April 11 when the women get to play our first-ever Summit League match in Brookings against USD,” Engdahl said.

Fresh off a pair of quarterfinal appearances at last season’s Summit League Championships, the Jackrabbit men will make their season debut Sept. 5-6 at the Art Peterson Invitational in Macomb, Ill., while the women will travel to the Gopher Invitational on Sept. 19-21 in Minneapolis. Both squads will close out their fall schedules at the Omaha College Invite and ITA Regionals.

“The fall season will be highlighted by the ITA’s in mid-October, where we have a chance to compete against the top players in our region, including Oklahoma, who was ranked No. 1 for a portion of last season,” Engdahl said.

The SDSU men return to action on Jan. 17 at Minnesota to open its spring season, while the women make its spring debut on Jan. 23 at Butler.

The Jacks have identical Summit League slates with the exception of the women hosting USD on April 11. SDSU will open conference play on April 4 at Denver and then travel to Omaha on April 13, prior to making the trek to Fort Wayne, Ind., to take on Western Illinois and IPFW on April 18-19, respectively.

The Jacks will make a return trip to Fort Wayne on April 24-26 for the Summit League Championships.

“This is by far the deepest schedule we have had for both programs during my four years at SDSU,” Engdahl said. “Our travel is a bit crazy, but we made it a point to challenge ourselves this year and that is exactly what we have done.”

The SDSU men compiled a 16-7 record last season, while the women finished 18-7 before both squads were defeated by IPFW in the quarterfinals.
