South Dakota State head women's soccer coach Lang Wedemeyer announced Wednesday six prep athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to enroll at SDSU and compete for the Jackrabbits in 2010.
"It is another great group of incoming players that have signed for South Dakota State soccer," said Wedemeyer. "Having only lost one player from last year's team that won a share of the Summit League regular season title and earned the No. 1 seed in the Summit League Tournament, we are poised to do even greater things for the 2010 campaign."

"Probably the trait that stands out the most with this class is their versatility. All of these players have played multiple positions for their high school and club teams and that adaptability will enable them to make an immediate impact on our program," said Wedemeyer. "We continue to bring in not only great soccer players, but great students and wonderful people into our soccer family."
Caylee Costello spent the last six years playing for the Dakota Gold/Alliance club team where they were state champions for the past six-straight years. Costello was a four-time all-state selection during her prep career, earning second team honors as a freshman and sophomore and first team recognition during her junior and senior seasons. She placed in the top five at the state tournament all four years of high school while also boasting a 43-3-2 career record. As a freshman, Costello was named most valuable player and top defender, while also earning top defender honors as a sophomore. In her final prep season, she was named the team's top midfielder and team captain. Performing well in the classroom, Costello is a National Honor Society member and plans to major in general studies.
Abby Jurgens played her club soccer for Toro Deportivo starting in 2006 where they were four-time state runners-up. During her prep career, Jurgens earned all-state honors during her freshman and junior seasons and received honorable mention status as a sophomore. She also started every game for Lincoln Southeast, en route to being named an all-conference and all-city selection the last three years as a freshman, sophomore and junior, with her senior season being played this spring. Jurgens also earned all-state scholar athlete honors for her work in the classroom in soccer and basketball.
Hanna Kiebel starred as a member of the Colorado Rush Swoosh club team from 2006-07 and most recently the Colorado Rush Nike from 2007-10, where in 2008, she helped her team advance to the Far West Regional. In high school, Kiebel was a first-team all-state selection as a junior and a second-team selection as a freshman. Her junior season, she was named MVP at Chaparral High School and led her team to the Colorado State Cup semifinals as a freshman and the quarterfinals as a sophomore. Off the pitch, Kiebel excelled in track, placing first in the Douglas County District 400-meter dash. She also excelled in the classroom achieving the Academic Excellence Award, earning a 3.75+ grade-point average. Kiebel, who has yet to finish her senior soccer season, was a high school teammate of current Jackrabbit forward Kelsey Ferguson at Chaparral High School.
Kara McCaughey played club soccer for the Blue Valley Stars Mallorca, winning six-straight state titles dating from 2004-09. Her team qualified for the regional finals in 2006 and reached the semifinals in 2008 and 2009. During her prep career, McCaughey led St. James Academy to two-straight Kansas state championships, winning titles her sophomore and junior seasons while also leading her team in assists both years. Excelling in the classroom, McCaughey won the President Award for Educational Excellence in 2004 and 2007 and plans to major in physical education while attending SDSU. McCaughey, who is yet to finish the final season of her prep soccer, will be in good company at SDSU with fellow Blue Valley Stars Mallorca teammate, Darci Miller, also signed a letter of intent to compete for SDSU in the fall.
Darci Miller, along with current signee Kara McCaughey, played club soccer with the Blue Valley Stars Mallorca, won six-straight state titles dating from 2004-09. Her team qualified for the regional finals in 2006 and reached the semifinals in 2008 and 2009. In high school, Miller was a Kansas all-state selection as a sophomore and a junior. She led her team to a state tile as a sophomore and was a state tournament finalist during her freshman and junior seasons. More than just a footballer, Miller played basketball for two years and was a part of two state cross country titles as a freshman and junior, while also being named a first-team all-state selection in her 8th grade and junior seasons. Off the pitch, Miller was named a Kansas Honor Scholar as a senior. With a spring soccer season in Kansas, Miller is yet to complete senior season.
Chelsey Poole competed for OFC Elite 1 Rio and won the state title four of the past five seasons. In high school, Poole led Millard West to two state titles during her freshman and junior campaigns and was a semifinalist as a sophomore. Poole was an all-state honorable mention selection from her freshman through junior seasons and is yet to play her senior season. As a junior in 2009, Poole was selected all-metro first-team, Class A all-state second-team and team captain. In the classroom, Poole was an academic all-state selection and is a member of the National Honor Society. Poole also competed in cross country as a freshman and sophomore and plans to major in nursing and physical therapy.
SDSU finished the 2009 season with an 11-7-2 overall record and won a share the Summit League regular season title with a 7-2 record in conference play, en route to a runner-up finish at the conference tournament.
