South Dakota State men's track and field jumper Jared Vlastuin qualified for the NCAA Championships in the long jump on Thursday...
Vlastuin qualified with a mark of 25 feet, three and one-half inches to finish 10th. He made the mark with his second jump in the preliminary stage. The distance was one-half inch short of his season-best at the 2012 Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which was also a school record.
Vlastuin entered the field as the No. 13 seed.
The win comes on the heels of the Outdoor Championships, where Vlastuin received Field Championship MVP, which included a league championship in the long jump.
The top-12 placers from the final advanced to the championships, which are set to take place in Des Moines, Iowa, beginning on June 6.
Competition continues tomorrow in Austin, Texas.
