Jackrabbits across the country

The South Dakota State track and field teams will be covering a lot of ground this weekend as they travel to three states to compete in four different meets. SDSU will be taking part in the Razorback Spring Invite, the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, the Stanford Invite and the Wayne State Invite.

Where they are going:

A handful of runners are traveling to California to compete against the best of the best in the west region. Tera Potts is scheduled to run the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Stanford Invite in Palo Alto, Calif. Erin Hargens and Trent Lusignan will compete at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival. Both meets will take place on Friday (March 29th).   

Hargens is scheduled to run the 5,000-meters at 3:05 p.m. (PST), while Lusignan also runs in the 5,000-meter event, his run his scheduled for 3:43 p.m. (PST)

Potts will run her 3,000-meter steeplechase at 5:15 p.m. at the Stanford Invite.

The two major groups of Jackrabbits will head to the Wayne State Invite and the Razorback Spring Invite; both events will take place on Friday (March 29) and Saturday (March 30).

At the Wayne State Invite the Decathlon and Heptathlon both will start at 1:00 p.m. and will wrap-up on Saturday beginning at 8:45 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. respectively.

The running and field events will both begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the 10,000-meters and the women’s hammer throw.

The Razorback Spring Invite will begin Friday night with the women’s hammer throw followed by the men’s event after. The events will start again Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase and it will conclude with the men’s 4x400-meter relay at 6:30 p.m.

A first for Trent:

Lusignan won his first ever Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week for his performance at the last week at the Missouri Relays

Near the best of the best:

Lusignan’s time (14:22.63) in the 5000m currently ranks seventh in the nation.

Looking forward:

The Jackrabbits will be hosting their lone meet of their season on Saturday, April 6. The meet was originally supposed to take place at the Brookings High School, but due to weather issues the SDSU/USD Duals will now take place at the Yankton High School in Yankton, S.D.
