Equestrian falls to New Mexico State in Waco
WACO, Texas – The South Dakota State equestrian fell to 0-2 on the season on Saturday with an 11-5 loss to New Mexico State at the Willis Invitational, hosted by Baylor.
The Aggies evened their record at 1-1 with the win.
“I didn’t expect the score to turn out how it did against New Mexico State,” head coach Megan Rossiter said. “Penalties and mistakes in our rides cost us points today.”
Freshman Victoria Johnson improved to 1-1 in her short career with a win in horsemanship, and earned her first-ever MOP honor in the process with a score of 74. Fellow freshman Elizabeth Niewojna also scored a 74 to boost her record to 2-0.
Keeping with the theme, freshman Blair Julia Wright scored a 72 on the flat to improve to 2-0 on the season, while senior Santana Wright picked up her first win on the flat with a 76, including MOP honors.
Raivenne Scott scored the lone reining point for the Jacks, carding a 73 to improve to 2-0.
The Jackrabbits close the Willis Invitational on Saturday evening with a meet against the host Bears.
