Equestrian wins two on Saturday
The South Dakota State equestrian team hosted a pair of exhibition western meets on Saturday at the DeHaan Equestrian Center and came away with a pair of wins, downing North Dakota State 4-3 and Minnesota-Crookston 7-1.
Two Jackrabbit riders won MOP honors on the day, with Danielle Baker winning it in reining against Minnesota-Crookston and Vanessa Hinkle winning the award on an exhibition ride in horsemanship, also against UMC.
The day started with reining against the Bison, where freshman Nicole Harvey picked up the lone point for the Jackrabbits with a score of 63.5, then continued with horsemanship, where freshmen Alisha Haddock and Kelsey Swainston both won their points; Haddock with a score of 72 and Swainston with a score of 71.5.
Senior Shelby Webb scored the final point for the Jacks in horsemanship, carding a 69.5.
SDSU took three of the four points in horsemanship against UMC, with freshmen Danielle Dickerson, sophomore Jessica Taylor and Webb all scoring points. Webb led the way with a score of 72, followed by Taylor’s 70 and Dickerson’s 69.
The Jacks swept all four points in reining against UMC with MOP Baker leading the way with her score of 71.5. Sophomore Raivenne Scott scored a 70.5, freshman Mikala Reed scored a 68 and senior Laura Dunlavy a 61.5.
The Jackrabbit riders get a week off before returning to action on Friday, Nov. 1, when they travel to Dallas, Texas to take on SMU, before traveling to Stillwater, Okla., on Saturday, Nov. 2, to take on Oklahoma State.
